Choosing a Hajj with more expenses not with more hardships

Question

My cousin who lived in Egypt died before performing Hajj. His children asked me to perform on his behalf because I live in Jeddah. The costs of Hajj here start from 2500 to 4000 Riyals. Should I choose the offer that costs less with some hardship involved or that which costs more but is more comfortable?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

You may choose the offer that enables you to perform the rituals in a perfect way. If they are equal in this concern, then you should prefer that which is more expensive to that which involves more hardship. According to Sharee‘ah, hardship is not principally sought after. But, if it accompanies acts of worship, then the person is rewarded according to the hardship he undergoes. This is based on the Hadeeth where the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: "Your reward is equal to the hardship you go through." [Muslim]

You should intend Hajj on behalf of your deceased cousin from the Miqaat of those who come from Egypt which is Al-Juhfah. As this place has been destroyed, the people now start their Ihraam from Raabigh.

Allaah Knows best.
