A son insulted his mother and tried to hit her

Question

I record a girl putting Hijaab on her head without it for 1 min and her hair were firmed, means behind not on her face and when her husband (my son) see that he insulted me and try to hit me and told me that I'm a Kafir and all that in front of his friend, I feel too bad about my son, also because he never feel sorry and tried to hit me, what do you think about his action.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

There is no doubt that you misbehaved by recording (taking a picture) of your daughter-in-law; this is something that you should not have done. However, the misconduct of your son towards you, insulting and hitting you is an abominable act greater than what you did. This is purely being undutiful to parents, and the right of parents is great as Allaah linked it with His Right as He says (interpretation of the meaning): {And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents}[17:23]. Therefore, he has to repent and ask you to forgive him. You should forgive him as you know that it is your behaviour that led him to commit that sin. Finally, we remind you that forgiving is a quality and a means that leads to our sins being forgiven by Allaah and being honoured in this life and the hereafter. It is confirmed that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "The more a person forgives, the more Allaah honours him (and increases him in status)''. [Muslim]

Allaah knows best.
