Question:

What is the Ash‘ari School? Is it one of the schools of Ahl As- Sunnah Wa’l Jamaa‘ah (the mainstream people of the Sunnah)?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

The Ash‘ari School was named after Abul-Hasan Al-Ash‘ari may Allaah have mercy upon him. The Ash‘aris adopt the same beliefs as Ahlus-Sunnah in issues related to the unseen which have been proven by revelation. These are matters like resurrection, the final reward and retribution and matters related to prophethood. However, in terms of theology, the Ash‘aris contradict many of the concepts that were adopted by the righteous predecessors.

Allaah Knows best.
