Working in cinemas and film production

Question:

I work in an Egyptian cinema production and distribution company, is my money Haram?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. The ruling of working in a company depends on the kind of products that company deals with. If the company produces good programs that are useful in this life and the Hereafter, and which are free from all prohibitions then working in such a company is permitted and ultimately the earnings from it are lawful. If the company produces bad, immoral serials or dissolute, shameless dramas that are full of obscenity, songs, music, songsters, etc., a Muslim is strictly forbidden to work in such a company because his work promotes obscenity, and involves forbidden activities. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {…Help you one another in AlBirr and AtTaqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression….}[5:2]. Ultimately, eating money earned by such work is also forbidden as reported in a Hadith that the Prophet (Salla Allahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said: When Allah forbids something He also forbids its price . [ Ibn Hibban and others]. Allah knows best.
