Beef in Luxembourg : Halal or not

29-6-2004 | IslamWeb

Question:

Is the meat of cow in this country Halal or not?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

The ruling of the beef meat whether it is Halal or Haram depends on the way the cow was slaughtered. If the cow was slaughtered in a way whereby the pharynx and the jugular veins were cut off, then its meat is lawful provided it was slaughtered by a Muslim, Jew or a Christian.

But if you know that it was killed by electrical shock strangling or shooting in the head, then it is unlawful to eat its meat as it is considered Maytah (dead animal without being slaughtered according to Shariah).

The third case is when you don’t know the way in which the animal was slaughtered. But you know that the people of the area where you live do not, most of the time, slaughter according to Shariah (as above described) then, do not eat from their meat.

We advise you to ask the closest Islamic centre to where you live. They will surely provide you with information about the places that sell Halal meat.

Allah knows best.
