Her husband puts a password on his mobile phone

Question

Salamualaikum, I have a deep concern about trust in my marriage, My husband keeps his cell phone locked leading me to feel suspicious of him. I practice islam and encourage him to as well. I shared my feelings with him about it and he ignores my request to keep his phone unlocked after he told me he would not do this. He asked me to get clarity from an outside Islamic source to prove my case, this being haram. May someone please contact my email with the quotes out of hadith & or sunnah about this being wrong so I can present it to him with hopes I might trust him. Thank you and May Allah(swt) return all your kindness

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

First of all, you should know that there is nothing that prevents your husband from locking his mobile phone or putting a password on it, and you have no right to ask him to remove it. In principle, a Muslim is free from sin and it is not permissible to suspect him without evidence. Allaah Says (what means): {O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is sin}[Quran 49:12]

Rather, trust should prevail between the spouses and each one of them should think good about the other. In this manner, harmony would prevail in your life and your situation would be stable and you will close the doors of the devil to destroy your marital life until he will lose hope in achieving that. However, if you continue to behave this way with your husband, i.e. suspecting him, then this may lead to unpleasant consequences: dissension might happen and this may lead to divorce. This is indeed what the devil wants, which is separating between those who love each other. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Indeed, Iblees (Satan) places his throne upon water; he then sends detachments [for creating dissension]; the nearer to him in rank are those who are most notorious in creating dissension. One of them comes and says: I did such and such. And he says: You have done nothing. Then one amongst them comes and says: I did not spare so and so until I sowed the seed of discord between him and his wife. The Satan goes near him and says: ‘you have done well.’” [Muslim]

Since you are religious, we hope that you would consider what we mentioned.

Allaah Knows best.
