A second wife’s right to have children

Question

Assalamu allaikkum, i am very much disturb and without peace for the past 1 year cos i married a non muslim widow as my second wife. aleady i am having a elder wife with two kids. i am a middle class familyman with lots of responsibility. My second wife is also having a 8 years boy. She wants a baby from me. i dont like to have one more already i am not able to concentrate on my two children. For that purpose she is fighting with me and comparing all my first life and cursing me. she has left all his religion and family person. i am verymuch disturbed. she is getting me angry she starts crying for days keep on comparing me with first wife and cursing me. now i dont want to leave with her but also my kalb is not accepting coz she had left almost all the things. what should i do pls i need u r advice.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

You have no right to prevent your wife from having children if she wishes that, as we have previously clarified in Fataawa 92181 and 82274.

We advise you, dear brother, to keep your wife in kindness, and do not deprive her of her right to have children, and rather seek Allaah's aid in raising your children. You should also invite your second wife to Islam, since there is a great reward in doing that.
