Question
Hi I have question about fillers. I am 35 and I have gotten really sunken eyes . So bad that people think I am 10 years older than I am. I can’t look people in the face anymore . And it hurts looking older than everyone else my age. Would it be permissible for me to try and fix my sunken eyes with filler? I really hate the mirror and when people look at me .
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
The summary of the Fatwa we have issued on the ruling on cosmetic procedures, whether with fillers or other methods, is that those procedures aimed at removing a defect or deformity are permissible, while those done solely for the sake of attaining beauty without the presence of any deformity are not permissible, as they involve altering the creation of Allah the Almighty. Therefore, if the situation you described is true, with your eyes being sunken and causing you some discomfort or psychological distress, and you have not found a way to address it through diet or medical treatments, we hope that it is permissible, Allah willing, to remove it with filler injections, provided they are safe and do not cause harm.
The Permanent Committee for Iftaa in Saudi Arabia was asked about a woman who wanted cosmetic surgery on her face and chest because her nose was large and wide, and she wanted to make it smaller using modern medical methods. It was mentioned that not undergoing the procedure could lead to psychological discomfort due to the prominence of the defect on her face. Their response was: “If the situation is as mentioned, and the surgery is expected to be successful without causing outweighing or equal harm, it is permissible to perform it in order to achieve the desired benefit. Otherwise, it is not permissible.” [End quote]
A decision by the Islamic Fiqh Academy regarding cosmetic surgery procedures and the cases in which they are permissible mentioned the following: Removing a deformity that causes psychological or physical harm to the individual.
