salam: i would like to ask if it is halal or haram to work in book companies in the west. sometimes books can bible, or magazines. also please, is it halal to work as a busser (clean tables) in restaurant

Accepted Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

It is permissible for a Muslim to work in these companies provided he avoids to work or help in spreading forged religious books, or magazines which call to immorality like fornication, adultery or sodomy or books that spread falsehood ideologies, if so then working becomes prohibited as this is helping in sin and transgression. Allaah Says (what means): {…but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.}[Quran 5:2].

It is also permissible to work in restaurants as a bus-boy (table cleaner) if what is forbidden like pork and intoxicants are not served on these tables, otherwise it is forbidden as one, by doing so, he is confirming the forbidden matter and helps it by preparing the place for this forbidden act to take place.
