German Holocaust Denier on Trial

There was applause from supporters as one of Germany's most notorious white supremacists returned to court in Mannheim.

Ernst Zundel has repeatedly denied the Holocaust, and is facing charges of incitement, libel and disparaging the dead.

The process was halted in November when the judge dismissed two members of his defence team after one of them described Jews as an "enemy people".

The 66-year-old editor was deported from Canada last year - he had been living there and in the US since 1958.

The indictment against him describes his "pseudo-scientific" attempts to clear the Nazis of guilt.

He has described Holocaust as a lie invented by Jews to oppress and blackmail the German people.

Zundel faces a maximum five-year sentence if convicted.
