Stark Warning Before Upcoming World Cup

A former German government official Uwe-Karsten Heye says black visitors will risk their lives if they venture into areas of the country where racist attacks are on the rise. These flowers mark the scene of a brutal attack on a 37-year-old Ethiopian man.

It happened in Potsdam, the capital of the state of Brandenburg, which surrounds Berlin. The authorities believe the assault was racially motivated.

Around 100 people have been killed as a result of far-right violence since German reunification in 1990. The majority of the attacks have occurred in the former communist states.

Thousands of foreign fans will travel to Germany for the tournament, which begins on June 9 and runs for a month. Berlin's Olympic Stadium will host six matches during the event, including the final on July 9.
