-    The superiority of living in it: it is given preference over any other town as proven in many authentic Hadeeths. It was narrated that The Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), said: “Yemen will be conquered and some people will come and make it alluring to them and invite them to migrate to it, thereupon they will set out (from Madeenah to it), driving their camels and carrying their families and those who are under their guardianship, though Madeenah is better for them if only they were to know it. Then Ash-Shaam (greater Syria) will be conquered and some people will come and make it alluring to them and invite them to migrate to it, thereupon they will set out (from Madeenah to it), driving their camels and carrying their families and those who are under their guardianship, though Madeenah is better for them if only they were to know it. Then Iraq will be conquered and some people will come and make it alluring to them and invite them to migrate to it, thereupon they will set out (from Madeenah to it) driving their camels and carrying their families and those who are under their guardianship, though Madeenah is better for them, if only they were to know it.”[Al-Bukhari and Muslim] Moreover, the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), urged Muslims to continue to live in it until their death. In confirmation of that, he said: “Whoever can (continue to live until he would) die in Madeenah, then let him do so, as I will intercede for those who die there.” [At-Tirmithi] The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), further encouraged people to endure with patience its hardship and difficulty, and that its difficulty should not force the Muslim to leave it. In this connection, it was narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), said:“None endures with patience Madeenah’s hardship and difficulty but that I would be an intercessor or witness to him on the Day of Judgment.” ‘Umar ibn Al-Khattaab, may Allah be pleased with him, was attached to to the extent that he very often supplicated to Allah The Almighty to make his death be in Madeenah. He supplicated Him to saying, “O Allah, bestow upon me (the favor of) martyrdom in Your way, and make my death be in the town of Your Messenger.” And Allah responded to his supplication.

-    The blessing of its food: it is a blessed land, and Allah blessed its sustenance and livelihood, units of measure and weight, and fruits, by virtue of the supplication of the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), to a good effect for it. It was narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, that whenever the people saw the first (product of) their fruits, they would bring it to the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), who would say, on receiving it: “O Allah, bless us in our fruits, bless us in our city, bless us in our Saa‘ and bless us in our Mudd (both are units of measure). O Allah, Ibraaheem (Abraham) was Your slave, Your intimate friend and Your Messenger, and I am Your slave and Your Messenger. He (Ibraaheem) supplicated to You for (sending Your blessings upon) Makkah and I am supplicating to You for Madeenah just as he supplicated You for Makkah, and the like of it besides.”[Muslim] What good living and what blessed residence could be better than those of Madeenah, given that the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), supplicated for it with that blessed supplication?

-    It is kept far from (the evil of) plague and (affliction of) Antichrist: in this connection, it was narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said that the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), said: “There are angels standing on the paths and ways of Madeenah, so that neither the plague nor the Antichrist would enter it.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] This Hadeeth refers to a great merit of Madeenah, which is safeguarded from the Antichrist, the head of every Fitnah (tribulation), the plague, destructive wholesale diseases and epidemics which corrupt the atmosphere and result in destructions. Madeenah then is protected with the protection of Allah from the greatest Fitnah in religion, which is the Antichrist, and from the most destructive disease concerning the body, which is the plague, and we ask Allah to keep us safe and well.

-                       Madeenah expels its impurities: It was narrated on the authority of Jaabir, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said that a Bedouin came to the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), and gave him the pledge of allegiance for embracing Islam. The next day he came with fever and said (to The Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention )): "Please cancel out my pledge of allegiance (for embracing Islam and Hijrah (emigration) to Madeenah).”The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), refused (the request) three times and (when the Bedouin insisted, he) said: “Madeenah is like a furnace, it expels out the impurities (bad persons) and selects the good ones and makes them perfect." [Al-Bukhari] It was further narrated on the authority of Zayd ibn Thaabit, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), said: “It (Madeenah) is good, and it expels out its impurities just as fire expels out the impurities of silver.” [Muslim]

- It is the shelter and enclosure of faith: it was narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him,      that the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ),        said that: “There is no doubt that faith will return to     Madeenah   in the same way as a serpent crawls back into  its hole.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

- The noble grave (of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa         sallam): Al-Madeenah An-Nabawiyyah contains the grave of    the     Prophet, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ). For this reason,        people should greet with peace the Prophet, sallallaahu         ‘alayhi wa sallam, and his two Companions, may Allah be pleased with them. This has      previously been clarified in the      article related to the manners of visiting Al-Masjid An-Nabawi.

That was the Madeenah of the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ), and those were its merits. There is then no wonder that the exalted position of this blessed spot in the hearts of people excels that of any other place.
