Israeli tank fire kills two Palestinians

Two Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli artillery in the northern Gaza Strip Sunday morning, Palestinian medical workers said.

The killings came after three Palestinians were killed in a series of Israeli air strikes in the coastal territory on Wednesday.

A Palestinian official said that the two were shot by Israeli tank fire, which was near the excavation site at the former Dugnit settlement.

Witnesses said they had heard artillery shelling, expecting those killed to be workers in the area.

Palestinian medical workers said they had been informed by Israeli authorities to retrieve two bodies from a border zone with Israel, and that both had been shot.
