Egypt's former interior minister, Habib al-Adly, has been sentenced to 12 years in jail for money laundering and profiteering, according to judicial sources.
Many Egyptians had been closely watching the fate of Adli, one of the most controversial members of the administration of Hosni Mubarak, because of the harsh practices of his police force during the uprising that deposed the former president on February 11.
Adly is also facing separate charges of killing pro-democracy protesters during the revolution and squandering public funds.
