The Prophet fasted Ramadan nine times

Question:

How many times did the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) fast the month of Ramadan?

Fatwa:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Fasting the month of Ramadan was prescribed in Sha‘baan of the second year after Hijrah. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) died in Rabee' Al-Awwal of the eleventh year after Hijrah. This means that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) fasted Ramadan nine years.
