Arab League Secretary General Issues Warning on Israeli Terrorism

Arab League Secretary General Amr Musa on Saturday night issued a warning on the continuation of the Israeli state-sponsored terrorism against Palestinian leaders, arguing, "any action is followed by a reaction." In the AL communique, the Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and his administration received a copy of which here at IRNA's Damascus bureau, Amr Musa warned against the continuation of the policies pursued. He has warned, "The continuation of such policies in occupied Palestine can deteriorate the Middle East crisis and aggravate the conditions to an unpredictable extent." In the communique, which reflects the contents of Musa's Saturday press conference, in response to a question on the future of the region, he says, "All in all we can say that the situation is quite ambiguous in the Middle East presently. And I would add, the current developments cannot be the harbinger of positive aftermaths." He emphasized that if the world really seeks the emergence of peace and stability in the region, the atrocities of the Israelis against the Palestinians should be halted immediately. The Arab League secretary general further reiterated, "Although the roadmap has flickered a very small light of hope for the people of the region, it is necessary for its initiators, and the whole global community, to exert pressure against Israel not to ruin it with its unwise acts." Amr Musa meanwhile asked the international community to send observers to the occupied Palestine, according to the articles of the roadmap, as soon as possible, to save it from annihilation in its initial stages. He added, "The Arab countries are currently making efforts aimed at halting aggressive deeds, but it takes two sides to make such efforts bear fruit."
