An Intercity passenger service has slammed into an empty train at Amsterdam's main train station. Despite the force of the impact lifting the front carriage into the air there were no fatalities.
It is reported 21 people were injured, two of them seriously. Dutch authorities say they still do not know what caused the crash. The landmark station is undergoing renovation work at the moment, with some tracks closed. Services to the city were temporarily halted after the accident.
Meanwhile in northern Spain another train crash has left around 20 people injured, six of them seriously. Two locomotives collided near the city of Zamora - one was believed to be at a standstill at the time of the impact. Around 200 passengers had to be evacuated by road.
