Question:
AOAWWB I am from Pakistan,My father in law was government officer(accounts) He was reponsible for all type of purchasing for the Institute he was working for, he fixed the percentage amount with the suppliers from the profit amount they were getting from the products they were supplying to the ORG.When I came to know that way and I asked him then he replied me that he is doing his business with the suppliers because he introduced them to the ORGInization on the conditioned basis that suppliers will give them share from the profit not on the whole amount of the product so he is getting that mony from last so many years. He was getting very low sellry from the ORG.He gave lot of dovrey(gifts) to their daughtr(my wife) including car, house, hose hold utensils clothes etc and still they are sending gift/clothes to all of us after their retirement. My question is that what is the islamic status of that all amount Is it Halal for us, Can we use it or what to do with the all stuff we have or we had used?We will be highly thankfull to you.Jazzak Allah.
Answer:
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
The excuse of your father in-law in taking the money of the company owners is unacceptable. This person is an employee who is in charge of buying all what his institution needs, therefore, his work is to carry out the duty for which he is getting his salary, and trading and acting as a middle man has nothing to do with this.
Therefore, the commission that he was taking is forbidden bribery; for more benefit, please refer to Fataawa 89483 and 90511.
As regards the ruling on your wife [his daughter] accepting gifts from him, then this is permissible but it is disliked, because it appears from the question that all his money is forbidden money. It is permissible to deal with the money of such a person but it is disliked to do so. However, it is permissible to use his gifts and benefit from them.
Allaah Knows best.
