All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
First of all, it should be mentioned that the 'Aqeeqah is a confirmed religious act and not an obligation as we clarified in Fatwa 83120.
The Sunnah is to slaughter two sheep for a newborn baby boy and one sheep for a newborn baby girl as we mentioned in the above Fatwa. However, it is not a condition for the 'Aqeeqah to be with a male sheep or a female sheep, or a male goat or a female goat; all these kinds of animals are acceptable provided they reach the age which is sufficient for an 'Eed sacrifice and they are free from deformities, because the ruling of an 'Aqeeqah is like that of the 'Eed sacrifice, in regard to the age, kind and absence of deformities (in the animal).
It is not an obligation to bury the bone remaining from the 'Aqeeqah, and we do not know any evidence about this and no scholar has ever said this.
