Question:

i heard of cases where muslim men marry women from the people of the book and their children are not muslim so this would be considered a loss. so i am guessing marrying women of the people of the book is only allowed in muslim countries??? or under islamic rule??

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

In principle it is permissible for a Muslim to marry a woman from the people of the Book whether she is in a Muslim or in a non-Muslim country, and whether this is under a Muslim rule or a non-Muslim rule.

However, due to the disadvantages that may result from such a marriage –as you mentioned in the question –the scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them absolutely disliked it. If the woman is in a non-Muslim country, then this is even more disliked as more disadvantages are probable.
