He shaved his armpit while wearing Ihraam clothes

Question:

I made Ghusl (ritual bathing) and then wore the clothes of Ihraam. Afterwards, I shaved my armpit while wearing Ihraam clothes. So, what is the ruling on that? What should I do? When I shaved I thought that I was allowed to do so while wearing the clothes of Ihraam.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Please note first that Ihraam refers to the intention for entering the rite. Therefore, there is no harm if a violation is committed before entering it, because no Ihraam has really been made. Also, wearing the clothes of Ihraam does not in and of itself put one in the state of Ihraam.

However, if the violation is committed after making the intention of entering the rite, then a Fidyah (expiation) must be fulfilled.

Allaah Knows best.
