Question:

Bismillah ir rahman ir raheem I have two issues to be commented upon. 1) I am 21 yrs old and i have hairloss problem. To lose hair at this age is quite painful as it wud interfere with my social life.So i am thinking to go into hair replacement where they place human hair on your scalp using artificial skin.Is this acceptable and Would i be able to pray with that? The hair can be completely washed and its like real hair. 2) I am in love with a woman and she is also in love with me.But the town i grew in doesn't favor love marriages rather men are asked to comply to arranged marriages and if he doesn't its a disgrace to the family. My father passed away and i have my mother taking care of me. If i bring the woman i love before her and marry her, the town would disgrace her and she would be sad and i would have disgraced my fathers name and mothers happiness. Therefore there is no way for me to escape from the arranged marriage issue and i cannot give up on the woman i love too. Therefore i decided to marry two women. I am financially fit to provide for both the women. And in my town its a custom that the husband goes abroad to earn money while the wife waits in india. I am abroad now with the woman i love(first wife) and this affair is not known to my second wife in india. I have to ask u two qns on this issue:- A) My first wife knows that i have a second wife, but my second wife doesnt know i am already married. I married the second wife due to my mothers honor and happiness in my town. Is this acceptable? B) I can provide for both the wives financially. And as i said, its a custom for the husband to go abroad and work while the wife stays in home country. And i am gonna visit her every year and she is happy with it. Would this constitute that i have equally maintained both of my wifes. Thank you for ur help.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

In regard to your first question about your hair, it is not clear. If you mean that this hair is implanted on an artificial skin and then this skin is put as a head covering, then this is like wearing a wig. This kind of joining hair is not permissible, and it is not sufficient to wipe over it while performing ablution, rather one should wipe directly over his head. For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 90127.

In this above-referred Fatwa, we clarified that hair implantation is permissible in case of need, so you may resort to it.

As regards your second question, the answer is that it is permissible to marry two or more wives on the condition that one is able to be just between them. Also, it is not a condition that any wife would know about the marriage of her husband with another wife, but he is obliged to be just between them as we already discussed. For more benefit, please refer to Fataawa 82988 and 81469.

However, marrying your second wife only to please your mother is not a sound reason for preventing her from her rights. The fact that the wives are in different countries does not exempt you from being just to both of them (and fulfilling the rights of both of them) as we clarified in Fatwa 90663.

Finally, it should be mentioned that if anyone of the two wives renounces any of her rights, then this is permissible because the matter depends on her.

Allaah Knows best.
