Question:

i have been working as a car salesman for different car dealers for the last 2 years.most cars i sell go through banking or financing and the customers pay interest ofcourse.i don't do the finance part but i know about it because i get paid on commision.
is it halal or haram knowing that 90% of buyers finance.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Borrowing money with interest is forbidden because it is Riba (usury) and the sin of this transaction falls on the person who borrowed the money and the one who helped him in borrowing; for more benefit, please refer to Fataawa 90453 and 81662.

As regards the person who sells a valid sale to the borrower and knows that the price is from a Riba-based loan, then he is not sinful as long as he did not help him by any means in getting that Riba-based loan.

Therefore, we do not see any obstacle in dealing with those who borrowed the money with Riba, trading with them and acting as an agent for them, and the like, as long as the dealing does not help them to borrow money with Riba.

Allaah Knows best.
