Question:

my husband's Khala( his mother's sister) while being married left her husband and eloped with a kaafir person, few years back.Should my husband and his relatives be in contact with her? according to my religuous understanding , its not allowed, please provide me all the proof so that i can prove to my husband what he is doing is wrong

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is permissible for the relatives of this woman to keep ties with her, and among her right on them is that they should advise her in a gentle manner and remind her of Allaah and clarify to her the seriousness of what she did.

If this non-Muslim man marries her or wants to marry her, then she should be advised that it is forbidden for a Muslim woman to marry a non-Muslim man, and if the marriage takes places between them, the marriage is void.

Then, if she takes heed, then this is what is required, otherwise they have the right to desert her. Rather, in this case, they should desert her, if it is predominantly thought that deserting her will benefit her.

Moreover, her guardian should endeavour to deter her and protect her and separate between her and that dissolute man.

Allaah Knows best.
