salaam. i am 22 years and workin in a private office. i start my work at 9:30 in the mornin and take a break at 2:00 till 3:30. my question is, is it ok if i go home durin my break time and do my prayers or shud i be going home right on time to do the prayers?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

According to the proper meaning of a break, it is permissible for an employee to go wherever he/she wants during its time, so you may perform the prayer during your break at home or at any other place.

In any case, it is permissible for you to go home during the break in order to perform the prayer there, and it is permissible for you to delay the prayer until you arrive home after work and then you perform the prayer at home if this does not lead to delaying it from its prescribed fixed time or performing it before its prescribed fixed time. What is important is that you should perform the prayer at its prescribed fixed time according to the Sharee’ah whether at home or at work. Allaah Says (what means): {Maintain with care the [obligatory] prayers and [in particular] the middle [i.e. ‘Asr] prayer and stand before Allaah, devoutly obedient.} [Quran 2:238]

Finally, it should be noted that it is not permissible to delay the performance of the prayer from its prescribed fixed time on the pretext of work. For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 86684.

Allaah Knows best.
