Question:

I had the niyah that after my 12th exam,i will take a year break and will try to correct my quran reading before i join an university, but i did not do it. and i am trying to join a university instead .so is that bad that i did not do what i intented?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If the matter was just an intention, then you are not wrong in not fulfilling what you had intended. Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "Allaah forgave my nation for the thoughts and whispers they have as long as they do not act upon them or talk about them.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] There is no doubt that correcting one’s recitation of the Quran is something good, and it is better if you also try to memorize some of it. Whenever, you can correct your recitation of the Quran or memorize it, then you should do so. For more benefit, please refer to Fataawa 102811 and 85707.

In general, studies do not prevent a person from correcting his recitation of the Quran or memorizing it as is well known. Also, there are some tapes or CD’s teaching the correct recitation of the Quran [they are called Al-Mushaf Al-Mu’allim], so you may make use of it.

All you need to do is to organize your time and reserve some of it to the Quran.

Allaah Knows best.
