The best method to drive away the devil

Question:

I found some gold but it is guarded by Jinns! How can I drive them away?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds.  I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

The best way to drive the Jinns away is to recite the Quran, especially Chapter Al-Baqarah (Chapter 2), and to frequently mention the name of Allaah The Almighty. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam , said that the devil flees from the house where Chapter Al-Baqarah is recited. [Muslim] He, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, also said that if someone recites Chapter Al-Ikhlaas and the Mu‘awwithataan (Chapters 113-114) thrice every morning and evening, he will be granted protection against all evils. [Abu Daawood, At-Tirmithi and An-Nasaa’i] Also, the Athaan (call to prayer) is one of the greatest means for expelling the Jinn.

In a Hadeeth on the authority of Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said that when hearing the Athaan, the devil flees in order to not hear it and comes back when it is finished. Then, when the second (immediate) call to prayer is made, he flees again. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Here, we would like to call the questioner’s attention to the importance of knowing the source of this gold. If it is stolen, then it is not permissible for him to take it. It is instead to be returned to its owners, if he knows them. If he does not, then he has to give it away in charity. If it is a treasure that was buried after the advent of Islam, then it is also not permissible for him to have it. It is regarded as Luqatah (found property) and there must be a one-year announcement period during which its owner can appear and reclaim it. Otherwise, it becomes the property of the one who found it. This is so provided that he cannot find its owner or his heirs. However, if it is a treasure that was buried at the time of Jaahiliyyah (pre-Islam), then it is to be considered Rikaaz. To learn the rulings of Rikaaz and Luqatah, see Fatwa 7604.

Allaah Knows best.
