Trading in qaat is unlawful

Question:

my name is abdiqani iam 25 year old boy nationality somali i have finished in my university education degree of international relations from ethiopia were my parents send me the fees and all of my costs. then i came in somalia i searched a work though i didnot find what concerns my work but i work now for khat or qat wich is drugs i dont eat it but i get in my salary so what islam says about it do i leave it . and is my salary is haram

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Eating qaat is something upon which there is a difference of opinion among the scholars  may  Allaah  have  mercy  upon  them; some prohibited it and some are of the view that it is lawful. However, we in Islamweb are of the opinion that it is forbidden as we already clarified in Fatwa 88984.

Therefore, you must quit working in Qaat and look for another job that is not doubtful. However, in case of necessity or dire need, you may earn your living from it until you find another (permissible) job.
