Question:

Assalam alaikum Is it permissable to refuse my husbands call to bed if he practises coitus interruptos without my approval? I want children and he is refusing me my right. JazakAllahkhair

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

You have no right to refuse your husband’s call to bed without having a sound reason; what you mentioned about him practicing coitus interruptus without your permission does not make it permissible for you to refuse his call to bed.

However, if you are harmed by that, then you may advise him on this matter, and if he insists on his position, then you may ask for divorce due to the harm. For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 100635.

Having children is a common right between the husband and the wife, so it is not permissible for the husband to deny his wife this right as we clarified in Fatwa 87397.

If the husband insists on preventing her, then the wife has the right to ask for divorce as a way of repelling this harm from her.

Finally, we advise both spouses to have a mutual understanding about any matter that may arise and lead to dissension between them.

Allaah Knows best.
