All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
It is confirmed that the Prophet said: “Whoever asks Allaah to exalt my mention one time, Allaah will exalt his mention ten times.” [Muslim]
However, we are not aware of any Hadeeth which suggests that asking Allaah to exalt the mention of the Prophet in Al-Madeenah is of more excellence than asking Allaah to exalt his mention at any other place, neither in regard to the reward nor in regard to the exaltation reaching him.
On the contrary, it is confirmed in the Sunnah that asking Allaah to exalt the mention of the Prophet reaches him whether the person who asks Allaah to exalt his mention is in Al-Madeenah or outside it. It is confirmed that the Prophet said: “… and ask Allaah to exalt my mention, as your exaltation reaches me from wherever you are.” [Ahmad and Abu Daawood]
Ibn Taymiyyah said: “The Hadeeth points to the fact that “your exaltation and prayers on me [i.e. Prophet ] reaches me whether you are near my grave or far from it, so you do not need to take it as an ‘Eed.” [In Arabic language ‘Eed means something that comes again and again, like ‘Eed-ul-Fitr and ‘Eed-ul-Adh-ha that the Muslims have, so the Prophet objected to the people visiting his grave again and again in order to exalt his mention as this can be achieved from anywhere they are in the world]
In another narration by An-Nasaa’i and others, the Prophet said: “Allaah has angels that travel on the earth, and they convey the Salaam of my nation to me…” So, the Prophet did not restrict this to Al-Madeenah.
Allaah Knows best.
