Question:

After a year of engagement, I discovered that my fiancée had partial sexual relations with someone, who told me about the painful details. She did not deny this when I confronted her. Should I break our engagement and let her go back to immorality or should I conclude our marriage? Please note that she loves me strongly and cannot bear the separation. Nevertheless, I cannot forget what happened and I imagine it every moment. Whenever I am about to take the decision to separate, I feel intense sadness and great guilt. What should I do?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

We advise you to conclude your marriage with this woman, particularly because she is attached to you and cannot bear the separation, as you mentioned in the question.

Even if she was an adulterous woman and then repented, it is permissible to marry her. This is worthier to be applied when she did not commit adultery and did so in the past and then became righteous. You should seek reward from Allaah The Almighty for your intention to maintain her chastity.

We also hope that your heart is not affected by the whispers of Satan who wants to cast misery into your heart and your life.

Allaah Knows best.
