Question:

What is your point of view on Tableeghi Jamaa‘ah? Is it the only group upon the truth, as its members claim? Does the companions' leaving of their homes for Jihaad and conquests constitute evidence for making the going out of Tableeghi Jamaa‘ah for Da‘wah a part of our religion? If yes, why didn't scholars follow it?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

Although what the Tableeghi Jamaa‘ah is doing in terms of Da‘wah activities and efforts is a good thing, it is by no means similar to the efforts of the companions may Allaah be pleased with them. That is because the companions may Allaah be pleased with them set out to call people to Allaah and disseminated and conveyed Islam to the people.

Those disbelievers who rejected Islam were left unharmed in return for paying Jizyah (protection taxes) and living under the dominion of Islam. However, those who refused either choice were fought against.

Tableeghi Jamaa‘ah, however, has its merits and demerits, and a fair person is he who agrees with them when they coincide with the truth and offers them advice to them when he sees their mistakes.

Allaah Knows best.
