Saying Islam is backward: an act of disbelief

Question:

What is the ruling regarding a person who says that there are some aspects of Islam which reflect backwardness and narrow-mindedness?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If anyone speaks about an Islamic act -- even if it is a recommended act and not an obligatory one -- saying that it reflects "backwardness" or should be changed because it does not suit this age; his opinion is considered to be an act of sheer disbelief (we seek refuge with Allaah The Almighty from it). Everything in Islam is valid for every time and place. It is revealed from the Lord of the worlds, the Knowing, the Acquainted. He, The Almighty Knows His creation and what they need. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Does He Who created not know, while He is the Subtle, the Acquainted?} [Quran 67: 14]

Allaah Knows best.
