Regular meetings to encourage people for Da‘wah

Question:

Is it permissible to hold weekly or annual meetings in a certain mosque in order to encourage Muslims to perform Da‘wah?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

 

Indeed, collective work to serve Islam is lawful in principle, since there are many evidences mentioning  the rewards of unity and cooperation in virtue. However, we warn you that this should not be a foundation to form factions, disunity or to become fanatical.

It would be permissible for a group to meet for the sake of serving Islam and to use up-to-date means, provided this does not run counter to any Islamic text or takes preference over any other duty that comes in priority. Consequently, we think that it is permissible to specify certain dates and times to meet and exchange opinions and experiences for the sake of Da‘wah provided that this would not delay any other more important duties such as performing pilgrimage for example. Also, these meetings should not be thought of as a Sunnah or something that has a specified reward.
