A fellow Muslim doesn't want to talk to him without reason

Question:

There is a guy who I saw in the mosque and asked him to look on the top shelf for me however he refused and left. I don't know him well at all. I approached him later and asked are you angry with me and basically he said he doesn't want to associate with me and the next time I try to talk to him he will hurt me in my heart I dont hate much and have made dua for him but he is 2-3 years older than me and I'm scared to approach him again. In regards to the 3 days hadith where it states you shouldn't desert a brother for more than 3 days... what should i do? I think there is a possibility that he think I was asking him to look over at the sisters section but thats the only explanation I could come up with?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Our advice to you is to avoid thinking about it or trying to guess the reason which led him to refuse to deal with you. Rather, you should be concerned with what benefits you.

His desire not to deal with you does not mean that he is deserting you. Even if we presume that he is deserting you, you are not sinful as you are not the one who deserted him. If he has no reason to desert you, then he is sinful for doing so but you are not.

The Hadeeth which you mentioned applies to the people who desert each other. Abu Ayyoob Al-Ansaari may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “It is not permissible for a Muslim to desert his fellow Muslim for more than three days; they meet each other but each one refuses to speak to the other; and the best of them is the one who greets the other first.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Allaah Knows best.
