Question:

Please clarify me about this interpretation. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {And among His Signs is this, that He created for you wives from among yourselves, that you may find repose in them, and He has put between you affection and mercy….}[30:21].

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

This verse is interpreted as follows in As-Sa‘di’s Tafseer (p. 639): "{And of His signs} that indicate His mercy, care for His slaves, great wisdom, and all-encompassing knowledge {is that He created for you wives from among yourselves} that are suitable for you and you are suitable for them, and they are of your kind and you are of theirs; {that you may find repose in them, and He has put between you affection and mercy} as He rendered marriage a means to attain love and mercy among the spouses.

Through the wife, one attains enjoyment and pleasure and he achieves benefit by having children and raising them and by finding repose and tranquility in her. The love, mercy, and affection between the spouses are not like those among people in other relationships. {Verily, this abounds in signs for those who reflect and ponder on the signs of their Lord}, i.e. those who employ their minds and reflect upon the signs of Allaah and progress from one thing to another." [End of quote]

Allaah Knows best.
