Question:

Assalamu alaikum Is the dua, while entering home (Bislillahi walajana wa bismillahi kharajna....) based on saheeh Hadith ? Jazakallah Khair

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Abu Daawood reported in his Sunan that Abu Maalik Al-Ash‘ari narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “When a man enters his house, he should say: ‘Allaahumma inni as’aluka khayra al-mawlaji wa khayra al-makhraji; bismillaahi walajna wa bismillaahi kharajna wa ‘ala Allaahi rabbina tawakkalna (which means: O Allaah! I ask You for the good of entering and the good of exiting; in the name of Allaah we enter, and in the name of Allaah we exit, and in Allaah our Lord we trust). He should then give the greeting of peace to his family.” Many Hadeeth scholars classified the Hadeeth as Saheeh (sound).

Imaam Abu Daawood may Allaah have mercy upon him dedicated a chapter in his book to this, entitled: “Chapter: What a man should say when he enters his house”.

Allaah Knows best.
