Washing the shroud with Zamzam water

Question:

Is it permissible to wash the shroud with Zamzam water to seek blessings? If doing so does not harm one’s religion, is it still considered a misleading innovation in the religion?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

 

We do not know of any basis for this act in the Sharee‘ah, nor did any of the righteous predecessors or the leading scholars and Imaams perform this act. Therefore, it is preferable not to do so.

Your indication that a religious innovation is not considered an innovation if it causes no harm is not correct. None of the scholars stipulate this condition when defining religious innovation.
