Treatment for disturbing nightmares and dreams

Question:

Everyday when I lay down to sleep I feel as if something enters my body and starts to move against my will. I feel as if I am suffocating, similar to someone paralyzed. Is this possession or just my imagination?
Why can the Jinn see us while we cannot see them?
Why can they control us while we cannot defend ourselves? Is this fair? I recite the Quran soon after Fajr prayer until sunrise everyday and I also recite Athkaar (mentionings of Allaah) regularly, so why does Allaah the Almighty not defend me?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Before reading the Athkaar mentioned in this Fatwa, you should review your faith and belief, because your questions show dissatisfaction and objection to the fate and creation of Allaah.

A person should know that recitation of the Quran throughout the day  will not benefit him if he thinks ill of Allaah and objects to his orders. The Quran and Athkaar are weapons, but the weapon’s effectiveness depends on its user. If the person who recites the Quran has corrupt ‘Aqeedah (creed) and calls into question the justice and wisdom of Allaah, his recitation of the Words of Allaah will not avail him.

Moreover, it is not proper to raise inquisitive questions about why Allaah does what He does and neglects what He does. Allaah the Almighty Says (what means): {He is not to be questioned about what He does, but they will be questioned.} [Quran 21:23]

Allaah the Almighty has consummate wisdom behind His creation and predestination. Allaah the Almighty Says (what means): {And your Lord creates what He wills and chooses; not for them was the choice. Exalted is Allah and high above what they associate with Him.} [Quran 28:68]

It is the decree, will and planning of Allaah that He created Jinn and enabled them to see us while we cannot see them. We must submit and accept such matters.

It is not right that the Jinn can control us and we cannot defend ourselves. Their harm is just like that of humans: while human harm can be physically fended off, the Jinn can be warded off by seeking refuge in Allaah from their evil, and self-protection can occur by observing the `Athkaar, preventive verses and Hadeeths, according to the conditions mentioned above.

Allaah Knows best.
