Selling the Mus-haf

11-5-2011 | IslamWeb

Question:

Is it permissible to make a discount on the price of the Mus-hafs (copies of the Quran) in the markets or should prices not change?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

If the intention of this sale was to facilitate the matter of buying Mus-hafs (copies of the Quran) and making it affordable for everyone, this would be permissible and you would be rewarded for doing this for the sake of Allaah.  This, however, does not mean that Mus-hafs are valueless. Selling Mus-hafs for lesser prices makes them affordable for most Muslims and this is a permissible purpose.

 Allaah Knows best.
