Question:

Is it permissible to pour water, over which some Quranic verses have been recited, on the whole body as an act of Ruqyah?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

It is permissible to pour water, over which Quran has been recited, over the patient’s body or to give it to the patient to drink for treatment purposes. This ruling is also applicable if a pure substance, such as salt or barley, is added to the water. Allaah the Almighty Says (what means):

·        {And We send down of the Quran that which is healing and mercy for the believers}[Quran 17:82]

·        {Say, "It is, for those who believe, guidance and cure."}[Quran 41:44]

·        Ibn Al-Qayyim may Allaah have mercy upon him pointed out that some of the righteous predecessors, such as Mujaahid and Abu Qilaabah may Allaah have mercy upon them permitted writing Quranic verses on paper then dipping it in water and giving the water to the victim of an evil eye to drink.

·        Ibn Al-Qayyim may Allaah have mercy upon him also mentioned that Ahmad may Allaah have mercy upon him used to write the following on a pure object for the pregnant woman suffering from a difficult delivery:

·        The Hadeeth of Ibn ‘Abbaas may Allaah be pleased with him which includes the following Thikr (remembrance): “La ilaha illa Allaah Al-Haleem Al-Kareem. Subhan Allaah Rab Al-‘Arsh Al-‘Atheem. Al-Hamdulillaah Rab Al-Aalameen.(None is truly worthy of worship but Allaah, the Forbearing, the Gracious. All glory is due to Allaah the Lord of the Noble Throne. All praise is due to Allaah the Lord of the worlds).”

·           {It will be -- on the Day they see that which they are promised -- as though they had not remained [in the world] except an hour of a day. [This is] notification.}[Quran 46:35]

·         {It will be, on the Day they see it, as though they had not remained [in the world] except for an afternoon or a morning thereof.}[Quran 79:46]

And Allaah Knows best.
