All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
Know, dear brother, that the best deeds that bring you closer to Allah the Almighty are the Islamic obligations, for they are the most beloved deeds to Him, Glory be to Him.
In the Qudsi Hadith Allah says: “And My servant does not draw near to Me with anything more beloved to Me than the religious duties I have obligated upon him.” [Al-Bukhari]
Abu Ayoob Khalid ibn Zaid Al-Ansari narrated: “A man came to Messenger of Allah and said, “O Prophet of Allah! Direct me to a deed which will admit me to Paradise”. The Messenger of Allah said, “Worship Allah and associate no partner with Him, perform the prayer, pay Zakat, and maintain the ties of kinship.” [Al-Bukhari and An-Nassa’i]
Therefore, preserve the obligatory acts of worship, such as the prayer, fasting, Zakat (almsgiving), performing Hajj if you are able to do so, and be kind to your parents and uphold the ties of kinship; these acts of worship are the greatest things that brings you closer to Allah.
The most emphasized of these obligatory acts is the prayer. It is the first thing the slave will be held accountable for, so strive to maintain its performance on time, especially in the congregation in the mosque, for Allah the Almighty bears witness to the faith of the mosque visitors, as Allah Says (what means): {The mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day and establish prayer and give zakah and do not fear except Allah, for it is expected that those will be of the [rightly] guided.} [Quran 9:18]
Besides, the Prophet said: “The Masjid is the house of every pious person.” [At-Tabarani who classified it as Hassan and Al-Albani agreed with him]
After the obligatory prayers, the supererogatory prayers come, like the stressed supererogatory prayers that are performed before or after the obligatory ones, supererogatory fasting, like fasting on Mondays and Thursdays, and the White Days [i.e., the 13th, 14th, and 15th of every lunar month], all of which are among the greatest acts of worship that bring you closer to Allah the Almighty. In addition, do not overlook good morals, for it is a great door to being close to Allah, as mentioned in a Sahih (authentic) Hadith that Abu ad-Dardaa’ narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: “There is absolutely nothing that is put on the scale that will be heavier than good manners; and the person with good manners will attain the rank of the person of fasting and prayer.” [Abu Dawood and At-Tirmithi]
Allah knows best.
