Ruling on saying 'go to hell'

Question:

Is saying “go to hell” as a joke kufr or shirk? Will the person who said it end up in hell because they spoke for something that only Allah knows about? I have said it as a joke but then I immediately regretted it and started asking myself these questions.
Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Though ugly, this saying is neither disbelief nor polytheism. Besides, it does not indicate that the person to whom it is said would be from the dwellers of the Hellfire in the Hereafter. This statement is said to indicate one’s anger and dissatisfaction by means of imitating the disbelievers who use it a lot.
