Ruling of Coffee Art

Question:

Is it permissible to make coffee art? Ie drawing a heart or a leaf symbol on a latte and other traditional art on coffee. Would it count as imitating the kaafir? Jazak Allah

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

There is nothing wrong with drawing art on coffee as described in the question. An action does not become prohibited simply because non-believers or wrongdoers engage in it. What is forbidden is imitating them in practices that are peculiar to them. This is the criterion for determining impermissible imitation in Shariah (Islamic law). Therefore, if a particular practice is peculiar to non-believers or wrongdoers that it leads others to associate the person doing it with them, then such imitation is considered blameworthy.

Allah knows best.
