She completed the Hajj after her menstrual blood ceased, and then it flowed again

Question:

I am a girl whom Allaah Almighty enabled to perform the Hajj last year. As I was still completing my Hajj, I had my period, which was intermittent this time. When it ceased, I went to complete my Hajj. As I returned to the lodging, it came back for a little while and then stopped again, after which I washed up. Please clarify the ruling for me, may Allaah reward you!

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

A menstruating woman may perform all rituals of the Hajj except for tawaf (circumambulation). The majority of the scholars held that purification from menses and post-partum bleeding is a requirement for the validity of tawaf, citing the Hadeeth in which the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said to ‘Aa'ishah may Allaah be pleased with her when she had her menstruation period, "Do as a pilgrim does, but do not perform tawaf around the House until you get purified." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Accordingly, if you performed some rituals of Hajj, except for tawaf,  while in your menses, then there is nothing wrong with that. And if performed tawaf after the menstruation period had ceased and you performed Ghusl (shower taken in when in a state of major ritual impurity) while you were in a state of purification, then it would not be invalidated by the flow of blood thereafter, if any. Regarding a woman who had intermittent periods of purity, Khaleel said, "She is to wash up whenever her period ceases and observe fast and perform prayer."

Similar to fasting and the prayer is tawaf, which she may perform while in a state of purification, even if the blood flows again after that.

Allaah Knows best.
