Publicizing Marriage on Social Media

Question:

What does "Announcing a marriage" imply? Is it valid to simply call and text family members and friends to tell them and invite them to a celebration? I am being pressured to publicise it all over my social media additionally, which I am not comfortable with as it has really damaged my mental and spiritual health. He says it is required and that this is what an "announcement" is. I am new to Islam and don't have enough knowledge to know whether he is right, or simply using Islam to coerce me.

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

We congratulate you on the blessing that Allah has bestowed upon you by guiding you to Islam. You should show gratitude for this blessing by following the paths of steadfastness upon the religion of Islam, such as acquiring beneficial knowledge, performing righteous deeds, keeping the company of the pious, and attending gatherings of goodness.

What is necessary in regards to the marriage contract, is that its conditions of validity are fulfilled, the most important of which are the guardian (Wali) and witnesses. If the marriage is contracted while fulfilling these conditions, it is valid in every case. As for Publicising the marriage, it is not a condition for its validity nor is it obligatory; rather, it is recommended. Moreover, the main purpose is merely to announce the marriage, so any way that achieves this is sufficient. This can include inviting people and celebrating with permissible singing that avoids musical instruments, and it is permissible to play the Duff (tambourine with no cymbals).

In short, once the marriage becomes known, the requirement of announcement is fulfilled, and it is not necessary to publicise it on social media or similar platforms.
