Obligation to forbid evil in one's home

Question:

What should I do when someone disobeys Allaah in my home?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

It is obligatory for a person who comes across evil to forbid it to the best of their ability wherever the sin occurs, according to the guidelines set by the Sharee‘ah.

Therefore, you are obliged to stop the person who commits sin in your home, advise him/her and remind him of Allaah and His punishment.

If the person stops, then all – praise be to Allaah. Otherwise, you should ask the person to leave your home if you are able to and if there is no greater harm to result from this action.

If you cannot take any of these actions it is still obligatory for you to detest the evil with your heart and to avoid supporting the perpetrator.

Allaah Knows best.
