Question:

We all know that shiite are always doing summation in exerting prayers i.eSalat Al Magrib + Al Isha. Is there any quotation from the Holy Qur'an or Hadeeth of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H.)?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

It is not permissible to combine the Maghrib and 'Isha' prayers or the Dhuhr and 'Asr prayers without a valid reason as there is no evidence on the validity of combining such prayers without a sound reason.

However, the jurists may Allaah have mercy upon them agreed in a consensus that it is permissible for the pilgrim to combine between Dhuhr and 'Asr in 'Arafah at the time of Dhuhr, and between Maghrib and 'Isha' at the time of 'Isha' in Muzdalifah, because the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) did so in his farewell Hajj.

It is also permissible to combine between Dhuhr and 'Asr either at the time of Dhuhr or 'Asr, and between Maghrib and 'Isha' either at the time of Maghrib or 'Isha' due to a long distance travel.

It is permissible as well for a sick person to combine the above prayers, and it is permissible for all Muslims to combine them during severe cold and heavy rain.

Allaah Knows best.
