Question:

I require your assistance for quoting any reference from Quran, Hadith, Fiqah and Fatwa about sterilizing and ”Pak” a metallic piece by heating which was used for cutting pork meat (declared haram in Islam). Kindly provide fatwa in light of Quran, Hadith and Fiqh, irrespective of any school of thought.

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.       Many Muslim scholars are agreed that fire is a means of purification (Islamic purification) of all impurities as it (the fire) "eats"the impurity itself wiping off all its characteristics: its taste, odour and smell. Some Muslim scholars establish that, if the land or anything else becomes impure it can be purified by drying it with sun rays, fire or air if these take out the colour and smell of the impurity that stuck to it.       The proofs for this are some Hadith and traditions from the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). For more details, please refer to chapters concerning "Impurities"in the Maliki and Hanafi books such as:       * Hashiat al-Dassuqi ala al-Sharh al-Kabir (Maliki school) * The explanation of Fath al-Qadir (Ibn al-Humam) Hanafi school.       So, if your knife gets some impurities from the pork and you purify it with fire, you have done the right thing as this what is established by the scholars mentioned above.       And Allah knows best.
