Celebrating Prophet's Birthday

Question:

What is the fatwa on reciting Mawleed un Nabi on day of Meelad un Nabi Prophet Muhammad (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)?
Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is not permissible to celebrate the Prophet's birthday or any other's birthday. If such a celebration were a good thing, the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) his Companions, and their followers would have done it before us. ( may Allaah be pleased with them all). This is a clear indication that every birthday celebration is an innovation.
